Hello,

I use data, art, and stories, to help change makers tackle social inequities.

My name is Arpita Sharma I am a researcher, artist, and filmmaker. I love telling stories using data to help philanthropists, policymakers, activists, and academics tackle social issues. I am using my skills to build empathy and bring more truth and accountability to systems that have left many marginalized across the United States.

On this website, you will find links to the latest reports I have worked on, data tools I have helped create, and my latest film and art projects. If you want to read my latest thoughts on social justice, film making, and art, please check my blog.

Reports

I have a passion for conducting research tied to activism and social justice. I currently work as a data analyst at USC Equity Research Institute, where I do demographic research to assist with various projects.

Data Tools

Over my last two years at USC Equity Research Institute, I have helped to build indicators for the National Equity Atlas, Bay Area Equity Atlas, and the California Immigrant Data Portal.

Art

I am a self-taught artist focused on using pen, watercolor, and acrylics to draw nature, emotions, and culture. I also hold free art classes on Wednesday nights to expose beginner artists to new mediums and materials.

Films

As an emerging filmmaker, I have been experimenting with creating short narrative and journalistic style videos to raise awareness of social inequities and mental health issues. I have recently started a YouTube channel called Rethink Desi to explore these issues further within the South Asian community.
